Dole’s Spirited Robert Post Jr. Is Remembered

The Dole family is saddened by the loss of one of their own. Robert Paul "Bob" Post, Jr., age 79, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Bob began his produce career in 1960 with Standard Fruit and Steamship Company (which later became Dole Fresh Fruit), in New Orleans as a customer service representative. In 1974 he was transferred to Dole’s San Francisco corporate office, but returned to his native New Orleans a few years later as Vice President of Banana Sales for the Central Division.

In his 45 years with Dole before retiring in 2005, Bob witnessed first hand, the transformation of the produce industry — including the move to shipping bananas from stems to boxes.

Apart from his impact on Dole business, Bob will be fondly remembered by his co-workers for his infectious personality and "joie de vivre" stemming from his native New Orleans. Bob dressed up for his share of Mardi Gras and graciously shared his passion for fine cuisine. He enthusiastically committed 100 percent to any activities he participated in from corporate sales meetings to supporting industry events and initiatives.

Mike Cavallero, President of Tropical Fruit for Dole North America, recalls, “Bob was an experienced and wise industry veteran with extensive knowledge of the banana business. Even after his retirement, I continued to speak with him on a regular basis, as he was a mentor for me. He will be sorely missed.”

Bob was the beloved husband of Joyce Williams Post and a loving father and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bob are encouraged to consider a donation in his memory to Jesuit High School, 4133 Banks St., New Orleans, LA 70119.
