More than 32 representatives from the consumer media connected with fresh produce during a luncheon and presentation at the New York Produce Show, held December 5th. Journalists from food blogs, cooking magazines, news services and internet TV stations experienced a hands-on demonstration from Duda and Frieda’s, gaining new insight into over 50 unique and exotic products, including Meyer lemons, black garlic, and Buddha’s hand.
“The Produce Show is one of my favorite events of the year because I always learn about new produce as well as finding out new things about old items,” says Jessica Lee Binder, founder/writer of FoodMayhem.com. “The media lunch is a great way to touch base with staff and ask a few questions before navigating the big show. Frieda's is such an excellent company to start with since they always have what's hot and new.”
In addition, the media representatives interacted with over 350 produce companies at the exposition and viewed multiple Chef Demo’s during the day. "This year's show was an incredible learning experience,” comments Amie Valpone, Editor-in-Chief of TheHealthyApple.com. “I walked away with two of my favorite foods: Meyer lemons and black garlic! The entire show was a huge success, and I was delighted to taste incredibly fresh produce and speak with each brand about their goals for 2013. I'm looking forward to working with many of them and enjoying their delicious produce, as well!"
Several of the attendees also participated in touring produce-oriented venues the day after the show, including an Urban Farm Tour, the Hunts Point Wholesale Market, and retailers in Brooklyn, New Jersey and Manhattan.
Mark Laiosa, food and cookbook writer, shares his impression of touring The Orchard in Brooklyn, NY, saying, “It was a chance to meet retailers and see novel approaches in displaying produce, like chocolate-dipped strawberries and pineapples!"
Media attendees already express excitement over returning to the show next year. “This is the best show ever,” says Dr. Adal M. Hussain of World Liberty TV. “It’s a must attend event in 2013!”
