AYCO Starts Melon Season Strong With Contribution To Guatemalan Schools

Pompano Beach, Florida. As the melon season begins and AYCO receives its first vessels of cantaloupes, honeydews and mini watermelons, the company is sharing the good start by providing computer equipment to two schools in Estanzuela, Zacapa, Guatemala. As part of its continuing effort to support local communities in production areas, AYCO Farms contributed 10 sets of computers and printers enabling the opening of an IT lab at both schools.

The computer equipment will serve over 600 students at the school of the Instituto Nacional de Educacion Básica and the Escuela Oficial Rural Mixta at Chispan Village. Ayco Farms Guatemala, S.A., a subsidiary of Ayco Farms Inc., coordinated the gift of computer equipment with the local municipalities.

“These activities are a part of our ongoing commitment to our social responsibility in the communities where we grow,” says Avi Nir, CEO of AYCO. “We have committed with the municipality of Estanzuela to support their educational programs for the next five years. We look forward to helping build the future for the children in these communities.”

AYCO reports the Central American melon season as being off to a strong start. “Weather has helped the quality of the product,” says Nir. “We expect an excellent, very promotable season and are enthusiastic about working with our retail and foodservice partners.”
