DALLAS – Avocados From Mexico (AFM), the No. 1 selling avocado brand in the U.S., announced the election of new chairman Ramón Paz-Vega, along with a full slate of board of directors for 2017-2018. Avocados From Mexico’s board of directors is also referred to as the Joint Executive Committee and is comprised of the executive teams of both Mexican Hass Avocados Importers Association (MHAIA) and the Association of Growers and Packer Exporters of Avocados From Mexico (APEAM).
Paz-Vega, 57, is a 35-year veteran of the Mexican avocado industry, with extensive experience in growing, packing, shipping, and marketing avocados in the global marketplace. During his 20 years in production and exportation of fresh fruits, specifically avocados and mangos in Mexico, he was appointed as CEO of several exporting firms. In addition, he was elected Vice Chairman of APEAM from 2000-2002.
He served as a professor at the Universidad Don Vasco, in Uruapan and at the Tecnologico de Monterrey for more than 15 years. From 2009-2015, he taught as a full-time professor at the Business School of the Universidad de Monterrey.
Currently, Paz-Vega is an avocado grower in both Michoacan and Jalisco states, in Mexico; Strategic Advisor to APEAM; and Secretary of the Board of the International Alliance of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters for the Advancement of Social Responsibility (AHIFORES) in Mexico. He has been a member of the Avocados From Mexico’s board since 2013.
