Annual Lipman Golf Classic To Benefit Farm Workers' Children

NAPLES – The 17th Annual Lipman Golf Classic, the leading fund-raising event for Redlands Christian Migrant Association, is set for Saturday April 30 at Naples Heritage Golf & Country Club.

Sponsored in part by Lipman Produce, the tournament last year raised $100,000 in celebration of RCMA’s 50th birthday. Organizers hope to match that total this year.

The proceeds will help RCMA enhance the state-of-the-art early-childhood education it provides to children of Florida’s rural poor, particularly farm workers. In fact, each dollar raised at the Lipman Golf Classic will qualify RCMA for $16 in matching funds from the state.

Based in Immokalee, RCMA operates 69 child-care centers and three charter schools in 21 Florida counties. Those include Immokalee Community School and eight child-care centers in Collier and Lee counties.

At Naples Heritage, this year’s tournament shifts to a club that closed last summer to renovate all bunkers; to re-sod the fairways with Celebration Grass, which causes the ball to sit higher; and to cover the greens with Tif-eagle, a dense turf that allows the ball to roll true.

“Our golfers loved it when the tournament was at Naples Heritage two years ago,” said Barbara Mainster, RCMA’s executive director. “They’re going to love it more this year.”

A golfer can compete in the Lipman Golf Classic for $225, which includes breakfast and lunch. Sponsorships are available from $250 to $10,000.
