Doral, FL – Alpine Fresh, Inc. grower, packer, and shipper of fresh fruits and vegetables headquartered in Doral, Florida reveals its efforts towards sustainability.
As Ica, Peru has experienced an increase in agricultural production over the past 20 years, water shortages have become a reoccurring issue and major concern for the region and the agricultural industry. Alpine Fresh, Inc., one of the regions largest growers of fresh asparagus, has uncovered new ways to optimize water use. Over the past 2 years, Alpine Fresh, Inc. has implemented a High Frequency Intermittent Drip Irrigation System (HFDI) technology. This technology combines an automatic fertigation system with a proven successful high-pressure drip irrigation methodology that doses/drips in short shifts. This specialized irrigation technology also allows the farms to use 30 percent less of the water that is generally used for farming asparagus.
“Our retail partners are very supportive and appreciate our efforts towards sustainability,” says Walter Yager, Chief Executive Officer. “Right now these efforts are being applied to about 400 acres and we expect to double that over the next 3 years.”
