ALBANY, N.Y. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the value of New York's tree fruit and grape production last year was more than $99 million, up 5 percent from 2010.
The USDA says that total includes cherries, peaches and pears. The value for apples will be released in July. New York is the nation's second largest apple producer, behind Washington.
Grape production increased 7 percent to 188,000 tons, worth $67.9 million.
The tart cherry crop of 5.9 million pounds was down 24 percent and worth $1.43 million. The 700 tons of sweet cherries were worth $2.11 million while 6,800 tons of peaches were worth $8.35 million.
