ZANESVILLE — Rittberger Meats is recalling about 9,000 pounds of fully cooked deli items due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a potentially fatal disease, according to a news release.
Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis, but it can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea. Listeriosis can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths as well as serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weakened immune systems, the release states.
The Listeria was discovered during a routine meat inspection by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, according to the release.
