STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Pork roll — yeah, it's a Jersey thing. But the six-pound loaf of seasoned, processed meat, officially called "John Taylor's Pork Roll," has popped up more frequently on Staten Island.
Shamin Frammosa, owner of West Brighton's S&T Bagels, brought the product into the store and promotes it with a poster that explains it as: "Pork meat originating and commonly available in New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland."
Developed in 1856, the sign says, John Taylor came up with the item, hence its legendary name "Taylor Ham."
