Sanderson Farms Inc.’s construction schedule for a new Kinston plan is on schedule, the company’s chief executive officer said this week.
Construction continues for Sanderson’s new processing plant, feed mill and hatchery sites near the U.S. 70 industrial park. Sanderson CEO Joe Sanderson Jr. said his company’s new plant in Kinston is still scheduled to begin production in January.
Sanderson reported a net income of $35.1 million for the second fiscal quarter of 2010, as compared to $26.2 million of net income during the same period in fiscal 2009.
“We are pleased with the performance of Sanderson Farms during the second fiscal quarter of 2010,” Sanderson said. “Demand for chicken at retail grocery remains strong.”
Sanderson said that the company is still considering Goldsboro as a possible new location for a $94 million big bird deboning plant that could employ about 1,100 workers.
