Pilgrim's Pride Closing Ark. Plant, 400 Jobs Lost

Greeley: Pilgrim's Pride Corp. will close a Batesville, Ark. chicken plant in October, eliminating about 400 jobs.

Pilgrim's Pride, majority owned by JBS USA in Greeley, said the closure is part of an ongoing re-alignment of its production facilities announced 18 months ago.

"This is a small poultry complex that doesn't fit in with our new strategy," JBS spokesman Cameron Bruett said Thursday.
Bruett said Pilgrim's Pride, which employs about 38,000 people worldwide, is close to a final deal to sell the facility to Ozark Mountain Poultry, based in Rogers, Ark., and that he expects Ozark to hire some of Pilgrim's Pride workforce to staff its new operation.
