Nathan's Famous Kicks Off 2014 Qualifying Circuit In Las Vegas

Nathan's Famous will kick off the 2014 qualifying circuit for the annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest at the Brooklyn Bridge of the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The official qualifying contest, to take place at 2 p.m. on April 26, 2014, launches a tour of a dozen qualifiers in cities across the United States.

The 10-minute, all-you-can-eat contest will feature top-ranked eaters including Pablo Martinez of Los Angeles, CA, and Mary Bowers of Dana Point, CA. The top male and top female finishers will earn a spot to compete in the ESPN-televised finals at the original Nathan's Famous in Brooklyn, NY, a holiday tradition since 1916.

Joey Chestnut of San Jose, CA holds the current world record by eating 69 Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs and Buns in 10 minutes in 2013, and he will seek his eighth straight title at Coney Island this year. Sonya Thomas of Alexandria, Virginia holds the current women's record having consumed 45 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes in 2012.
