Meridian Meat & Sausage Carries On A Way Of Life From The Old Country

In the fall of 1959, a young Swiss couple started a meat packing plant off Main Street in Meridian.

Albert and Trudi Schoop didn't intend to settle in Meridian, a town of a couple thousand people.

“Actually they were headed to California, and they came through this valley,” said Rene Schoop, their son who was born the same year as the plant opened. “They liked this valley … and they stayed.”
