Merkley Quality Meats in Jasper has endured a hit of fame recently, since the Schnitzlebank's bratwurst sandwich, using Merkley's Bratwurst, won the Indiana Super 46 Sandwich contest at Super Bowl time.
It was a personal shot of pride for me, because my dad, Thomas Blume, has worked in Merkley's sausage kitchen for 50 years, and has a hand in all the bratwursts, fresh and smoked sausages, bologna and hams they produce.
As a unique addition to the plain and garlic brats, Merkley's offers flavored brats, in such interesting combinations as mushroom and Swiss, pizza with mozzarella cheese, and Hawaiian, to name a few.
