Indiana Resident's Smoked Chicken Recipe Declared Verifiably Good By Perdue

Salisbury, Md. –  Eden Crump of Floyds Knobs, Ind., a married father of two and linens' manager at Clark Memorial Hospital, was recently awarded the grand prize in the PERDUE® Verifiably Good video contest, winning a cash prize of $4,000 and coupons for a year's worth of PERDUE® chicken products.

The contest, which asked consumers to share their best techniques for cooking and preparing chicken in a three minute or less video, is part of a broader education campaign launched by Perdue earlier this year about the USDA Process Verified Seal, which now appears on PERDUE® fresh, all natural chicken products. Perdue is the first poultry company to receive this seal of verification for its practices. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has verified that PERDUE® products with this seal are from chickens that have been raised without cages and/or were fed an all vegetarian diet with no animal by-products.

Crump heard about the contest through a friend, and believed his love of grilling and video skills could help him win. In his winning entry titled, "Big E's Smoked Chicken," he demonstrates how to grill a maple-flavored chicken using hickory wood chips. He also shows how to use the chicken to prepare a variety of dishes for the week including a shredded barbeque chicken sandwich, a smoked chicken salad, and a chicken quesadilla.

“My in-laws bought me a Big Green Egg® grill a few years ago and I just love using it to smoke whole Perdue chickens," said Crump. "I ultimately hope to pass down my love for cooking on to my kids the way my parents passed down their love of cooking to me."

Andy Nguyen, a Columbia film student from New York City, N.Y., and his Poor Dude Pot Pie entry won the first place prize of $1,000 and a year's supply of chicken. April McKinney, a newlywed from Murfreesboro, Tenn., and her Basil-Prosciutto Chicken Roll-Ups entry won the second place prize of a year's supply of chicken. The contest received 30 video entries featuring a variety of unique chicken recipes. The winners were chosen from a group of 10 finalists by a mix of a judging panel and consumer vote. The judging panel included Piera Jolly of Jollymom.com, Felicia Carter of GoGrahamgo.com, Adam Roberts of Amateurgourmet.com, and Chef Kathleen Daelemans.
