Canadian Meat Council Welcomes New President

Ottawa, Ont. – On May 31, during its 93rd Annual Conference in Banff, Alberta, the Canadian Meat Council elected Arnold Drung as President for 2013-2014.

Mr. Drung is President of Conestoga Meat Packers Ltd. of Breslau, Ontario. Conestoga is a wholly owned subsidiary of Progressive Pork Producers Cooperative Inc., and is supplied by more than 120 hog farmer members.

Mr. Drung joined Conestoga in 2002 as General Manager and has been in his current position since 2009. Prior to joining Conestoga, he held positions with J.M. Schneider Inc., McNeil Consumer Products and Maple Leaf Consumer Foods, primarily in the marketing and business unit management areas, and worked also in the consulting field. His career in the meat business began as a student working on the hog kill floor at the former Burns Meats plant in Kitchener, Ontario.

Raised in the Kitchener area, Arnold Drung received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and subsequently completed a Masters in Business Administration from the same institution.

Canada’s meat processing industry includes some 400 federally registered establishments, providing not only safe, high quality protein for Canadian consumers, but also adding jobs and making a significant contribution to local economic activity in both rural and urban Canada. With annual sales of $24.1 billion, beef exports of $1.3 billion, pork exports of $3.2 billion and 70,000 jobs, the Canadian meat industry is the largest component of this country’s food processing sector.

The Canadian Meat Council has been representing Canada’s federally inspected meat processing industry since 1919.
