AMI, along with other critics of the current ethanol policy, met with White House officials to express its concerns regarding recent proposed modifications made by corn ethanol organizations to expand federal support for corn-based ethanol and extend the blender’s tax credit, reported the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS).
The meeting was chaired by Heather Zichal, deputy assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change.
“The meeting with White House officials regarding U.S. ethanol policy and how the expiring blender’s credit for corn ethanol should be addressed was very productive and encouraging,” said AMI President and CEO J. Patrick Boyle, who attended the meeting. “AMI has had longstanding concerns over the negative impact the rapid expansion of the subsidized corn ethanol industry has had on the meat and poultry sector and American food prices. We look forward to future discussions with the White House and other interested parties on this important issue,” he added.
AMI is also urging Congressional leaders to oppose fiscally irresponsible proposals that would significantly expand federal support for corn ethanol at the expense of truly sustainable advanced biofuels, the environment, consumer food prices and taxpayer dollars.
