John Duncan, horticulturalist at Greengate Garden Centres, is a selfproclaimed bulb freak.
But Duncan also knows all about other plants, too. And he's always happy to talk plants with another plant fanatic. I visited him recently to discover what's new in the world of annuals and perennials.
The No. 1 hottest annuals are the new black petunias -Phantom Black, Velvet Black and Pinstripe. These petunias truly are almost a rich velvety black.
The flowers of Pinstripe also have a creamy stripe down the vein of each fused petal. Since they're "mounders" rather than trailers, team them with trailers.
