A new fuzzy-leafed globe amaranth, the first mandevilla vine that doesn't vine, and a flower that looks like a pumpkin-sized snowball top the list of new annual flowers hitting the market this spring.
Here's a look at potential 2014 stars that will show up in local garden centers by May:
Gomphrena 'Pink Zazzle.' "Very different, very cool," is how Steve Norman, the annuals buyer at Stauffers of Kissel Hill garden centers, describes his favorite newcomer of 2014.
"This one-of-a-kind gomphrena catches your eye with its large, bright, vibrant pink flowers that burst out of the bright green foliage," he says. "The flowers are very durable and long-lasting."
