Texas' Gilbert Creek Gardens No Shrinking Violet

BURKBURNETT, Texas — On a country road in Burkburnett, the sweet peas dazzle in their purples and pinks and ruddy reds.

Their perfume saturates the sweltering Texas air.

When the sun starts to set, the bees, huddled up in hives, start to zip in the background of this Texas Monet picture. They venture out then buzz about and drink in the nectar that will make the most unusual honey.

“I don’t think anyone else has sweet pea honey. … It was so different. It was almost clear to a point; it was so good,” said Blake Ramon on a 100-degree June Friday evening while standing before a row of sweet peas.
