Star Roses & Plants Introduces 2014 & 2015 Plant Selections

West Grove, PA — Star® Roses and Plants/Conard-Pyle, the introducer of The Knock Out® Family of Roses, brings new roses and plants to gardeners across the country. This year’s garden- and gardener-friendly introductions are proven-to-thrive roses and plants.

“We are excited and proud to bring this group of exceptional roses, perennials and a woody to gardeners of all sorts—experts, beginners, landscapers and plant aficionados like myself,” says Steve Hutton, president and CEO of Star® Roses and Plants/Conard-Pyle. “The list includes additions to the whimsically named Look-A-Likes® series, beautifully tall award-winning hybrid tea roses and a couple of notable perennial series — all ready for any garden.”

BougainFeelYa is the latest addition to the Look-A-Likes® series of roses with untraditional blooms. Its flowers are dark red, nonfading and similar in shape to those of a Bougainvillea. Flowers form continuously throughout the season. BougainFeelYa is also very resistant to rust and mildews, and has a decent tolerance for black spot. This variety is low-growing and easy to maintain.

Dee-Lish®, a tall hybrid tea rose and winner of the prestigious ADR contest in Germany, features an old-fashioned flower and a very strong fragrance of verbena and citrus. It has a large, deep pink non-fading bloom, and it makes for an excellent cut flower.

Tahitian Treasure™, bred by The Knock Out® Rose creator Will Radler, represents a breakthrough in breeding. It is one of the first garden roses with all the great attributes of a landscape shrub rose — strong color, good habit, good flowering density, good rebloom and excellent disease resistance. It is hardy to zone 5.

Fired Up™ is hard to miss in the garden. Its blooms are striped yellow and bright orange and finish blood orange. The color does not fade in the heat or when finishing and it reblooms well. It has very good tolerance to rust and mildews. Fired Up™ is recommended for the dry climates of the West.

Mercury Rising™ is a seedling of the popular hybrid tea rose Gemini. It has similar coloration and a great exhibition-type flower, but it is much more vigorous with glossier foliage. It a perfect flower for cutting.

Eyeconic® Lychee Lemonade delivers a new color to the Eyeconic® series. The bloom is ivory cream with a deep burgundy blotch, finishing almost white with a pink blotch. The flower is semi-double. It is an ideal container plant for the West because of its vigorous yet compact habit.

“Perennials and woodies add variety to the garden and provide color all season long,” says Hutton. “There is a lot of variety in our 2014 introductions.”

Achillea Moon Dust, a compact yarrow with soft yellow flowers and attractive silver foliage, blends well with other colors in the garden. It’s a great option for container plantings.

With a compact and dense dome of golden yellow foliage, Caryopteris Good As Gold adds interest to the garden in the spring and summer. In the fall, bluish-purple flowers will appear, contrasting brightly with the yellow foliage.

Coreopsis Little Bird, a true dwarf Coreopsis, has dense foliage and an even rounded habit, displaying large, bright yellow flowers throughout the season.

Nepeta Top Hat displays a perfect, even and rounded habit. Plump blue spikes of blooms will add a pop of color to the garden in early summer.

The Penstemon Rock Candy series—Pink Rock Candy and Purple Rock Candy — fit in well at the front of a border, along walkways or in containers.

With a plethora of lilac-pink blooms standing atop strong, dark red stems that complement the rich dark-green-to-burgundy foliage, Penstemon Paint Brush creates a dynamic show from 100 feet away!

Perovskia Little Lace is tidy and compact with delicately textured foliage and blooms that will add a layer of interest to the garden.

The Veronica Moody Blues series is brand-new with four colors to choose from — Dark Blue, Light Blue, Mauve and Pink. They all have a compact habit and are excellent garden plants.

There are three new members of the Suncrest Salvia series— "Autumn Moon," "Fancy Dancer" and "Lemon Light." These Salvias are all compact and long-blooming.

Weigela Ruby Fusion™ is a shrub that would be a perfect plant for small gardens or tight spaces. The foliage is a lovely golden color that resists burn in the mid-Atlantic region. In the spring, the full flush of red blooms contrasts well with the golden foliage.

Star® Roses and Plants/Conard-Pyle is always looking to introduce quality plants to the market. Here is a sneak peek at the 2015 introductions.

Best Kept Secret™ is a Hybrid Tea rose with great foliage, a strong fragrance, and excellent tolerance for rust and mildew.

Icecap™, a landscape shrub rose, displays a dense flush of pure white flowers on a compact, rounded habit, and is an excellent repeat-bloomer.

Look-A-Like® Apple Dapple is a large groundcover rose that reblooms throughout the season and growns well own-root.

Pretty in Pink Eden® is a vigorous climbing rose with deep pink blooms. It is more fragrant that its predecessor Eden®.

Rosa Peachy Keen™, an almost-Knock Out® rose, is an exceptionally disease-resistant shrub that blooms continuously spring to frost.

Albizia Chocolate Fountain™ is the only purple foliage–weeping Silk Tree on the market. Its delicate pink flowers form in the summer.

Clethra Einstein™ has some of the longest racemes of blooms ever seen on a Summersweet shrub, reaching up to 12”.
