Target department stores are getting out of the live plant business.
It seems there wasn't enough green in the endeavor for the Minneapolis-based retailer, which competed with home-improvement stores and independent retail nurseries.
Mom-and-pop nurseries in Southwest Florida had mixed opinions on whether Target's departure from plant sales would matter.
"I would certainly expect it would create some opportunities," said Ken Ellam at Bayshore Garden Center in North Fort Myers. He's worked at the garden center for 3 1/2 years, during most of Southwest Florida's economic downturn.
