Portions of Sacramento County have been added to areas of the state under quarantine for the light brown apple moth.
The native pest of Australia threatens the environment and crops in California. It can destroy, stunt or deform young seedlings and damage new growth in forest canopies. It also damages ornamental plants, citrus, grapes and deciduous fruit tree crops.
Nineteen counties are part of the quarantine, totaling 5,147 square miles, making it one of the largest pest quarantines in state history.
