At the request of the florist and the consumer and after years of development, Smithers-Oasis is introducing OASIS® NATUREBASE® Bio Floral Foam, the world’s first floral foam that is biodegradable.
“Our customers are at the heart of our business,” explains Chris Martens, Managing director of Smithers-Oasis BeNeLux. “After listening to their valuable feedback, we are delighted to announce that we have upgraded the technology of our OASIS® floral foam, resulting in a positive impact on the environment.”
OASIS® NATUREBASE® Bio Floral Foam’s new formula is designed for modern landfills and attracts microbes that break the foam down into methane, CO2 and organic matter. Testing based on American Society for Testing (ASTM) and Materials standards shows that OASIS® BIO Floral Foam will biodegrade for 51.5% within 1 year and 85% within 3 years in biologically active landfill conditions.
For more than 60 years, Smithers-Oasis has continued efforts not only in the advancement of the floral industry but also in sustaining the environment. Smithers-Oasis was the first in the industry to eliminate the use of chlorofluorocarbon from floral foam production and has successfully reduced volatile organic compound emissions (VOCs) by more than 85% over the last 25 years.
Chris Martens also commented that “As part of the Smithers-Oasis culture”, the company is constantly looking for ways to be an increasingly sustainable company and provide environmentally friendly products and solutions to its customers.
A great example of this is the NatureBase range. NatureBase® is a biodegradable base that looks like, feels like and performs like plastic, but is actually made from sustainable materials so it fully biodegrades.
OASIS® NATUREBASE® Bio Floral Foam is available in 4 shapes, Florette Petite and Grande, a 33cm Solid Heart and a 41cm Ring. The range will be available for customers to buy from their local wholesalers.
