The Society of American Florists (SAF) held their annual Outstanding Varieties Competition during September 18th-21st in Phoenix, Arizona.
Every year, importers and growers from the Americas exhibit their most impressive varieties in 12 categories including: Roses, Spray Rose, Chrysanthemum, Cut Bulb, Gerbera, Alstroemeria, Dianthus, Other Cut Flower, Decorative Foliage, Potted Flowering Plant, Bedding Plant, and Potted Foliage Plant. Judges from various segments of the industry take the opportunity to evaluate the varieties based on their commercial appeal and overall quality, and ultimately award winners with Best in Show, Best in Class, Blue Ribbons and Red Ribbons.
This year, Golden Flowers, a Miami distributor of fresh cut flowers representing more than 35 farms mainly from Colombia, won Best in Class awards in two categories: Chrysanthemum ‘Safina’ and Dianthus ‘Star Cherry Tessino’. Additionally, Golden Flowers has proudly won 17 Best in Class awards over the last 10 years, the most in the OV Competition.
