Dutch large-flowered roses became 6.5 percent more expensive over the last year, FloraHolland reports. Simultaneously, the price of cluster roses showed a downward trend however.
The amount of agricultural land being used to grow small-flowered roses has decreased to an absolute minimum in 2010, FloraHolland’s ‘Product Commission Roos’ reports. Nonetheless, that had no visible effect on the price of the product. Overall, Dutch cluster roses netted 1.8 percent less than last year on average.
Import roses show a largely similar picture, although their average price did not recover from the crisis as well as that of the Dutch roses did. The only exception to that rule is imported cluster roses, of which many more were being supplied in 2010. Nonetheless, they sold for over 6 percent more, a development considered surprising by the people at FloraHolland. However, “the market remains very fragile”, the auction cautions those who are tempted to draw long-term conclusions.
