Ontario-Grown Eremurus Finding Their Way Around The Country

ONTARIO — Local flowers are making a splash around the country.

Three fields’ worth of flowers growing south of Ontario get distributed by catalog around the nation each year for seeds, roots and the flowers when they’re blooming. The sometimes 7-foot-tall flowers have made their way into well-known luxury hotels, including the Bellagio on the Las Vegas strip.

These sunset-colored beauties known as eremurus grow nestled among folds of agricultural farmland. The yellow, pink, orange and purple conical-shaped perennials commonly known as foxtail lilies range from 3 feet to 7 feet tall and are in full splendor in May and June.

The flowers are then sold to wholesale florists around the states, including Oregon Roses in Forest Grove, Teresa Hopman said.
