MANNINGTON TWP. — In a rural spot tucked away off Kings Highway here, the brilliant colors of Christmas are in their full glory.
Inside greenhouses covering seven acres, Carmen LaRosa has spent the past months carefully nurturing 120,000 poinsettias that are now ready to head to homes up and down the East Coast.
In the spring, LaRosa Greenhouses here grows thousands of bedding plants that make their way to retailers across the region, but in the heat of summer LaRosa turns his attention to the plant that has become a symbol of the Christmas season — the poinsettia.
“Poinsettias are an expensive plant to grow,” LaRosa said. “It takes so much care. There is so much you have to do to establish a beautiful plant. It’s labor-intensive.”
