Each Monrovia Mandevilla comes with its own natural defense system
Azusa, California – Monrovia is bringing even more value to its mandevillas. The climbing vines with bold tropical flowers will now come with their own defense system in the form of beneficial insects.
“Mandevilla are a favorite plant for spider mites,” said Trae Crocker, plant protection coach at Monrovia. “They can do a lot of damage to the plant. At our nurseries we help prevent spider mite issues in a natural way, using beneficial insects to help fend off potential problems. Now, we’re allowing those friendly bugs to help in home gardens too.”
Each 1, 2, and 5-gallon mandevilla will have a sachet attached that includes a beneficial mite colony. The sachet allows for a steady emergence of the mites over a few weeks, offering added protection for your mandevilla and other plants in your garden.
Monrovia’s SunvillaTM Mandevilla have a mounding habit that keeps these climbers well-behaved. They add long-lasting, free-flowing tropical color to the garden with Red, White, Pink, or Giant Red blooms. Sunvilla are considered perennials in Zones 9-11 and annuals in cooler climates. They can also be overwintered indoors. Their twining stems can reach 15 to 20 feet. Look for your new mandevilla in Monrovia’s distinctive green pot.
“We are very proud of our beneficial insects program,” Crocker said. “Using these natural preventative methods helps Monrovia grow healthy plants that thrive in home gardens.”
