Western Global Airlines recently launched a new cargo service from Miami to destinations in South America. The new carrier, which began operations in August, operates a fleet of MD-11Fs. Jim Neff, a familiar name in air cargo, is the founder of CEO of Western Global Airlines. Neff also was founder and CEO of Southern Air, before selling that company in 2007. The new airline is headquartered in Sarasota, Fla.
WGA, which is the 39th all-cargo airline to serve Miami, plans to serve the major cargo centers of South America, including Colombia, which is Miami International Airport’s top international trade partner by weight. The primary product moving out of Colombia to Miami is cut flowers.
Neff, who did not respond to requests for an interview for this article, is also CEO and chairman of Helsinki-based Nordic Global Airlines (NGA). He also owns Neff Air LLC, a leasing company which owns 10 MD-11Fs and two 747-400 BCFs. NGA has operated in the European market for the past three years with a fleet of four MD-11Fs leaded from Neff Air.
