The 2014 Industry Poinsettia Trial Field Day will be held Tuesday, December 9, 9:15am–2pm, at the UF Environmental Horticulture Greenhouse Complex in Gainesville (map).
The trials are sponsored by poinsettia breeder companies and this year there are 129 varieties from Beekenkamp, Dummen, Selecta/Ball, and Syngenta. Emphasis is on the newer and more important varieties, with many being shown for the first time.
On the industry day for commercial growers, Dr. Jim Barrett will lead a discussion on the varieties from 9:30 to 11:00am From 11:00 to 12:30pm education sessions from Dr. Lance Osborne and Dr. Paul Fisher will cover alternatives to neonicitinoid pesticides, and new production technologies including automated irrigation, mobile apps, and fertilizer strategies. Lunch will be provided at 12:30pm, sponsored by Syngenta. You can discuss your particular issues and questions with Dr. Barrett during an open time from 1:00 to 2:00pm. Registration is free.
