Richmond, Indiana – The time has finally arrived. International Floral Distributors (IFD) has released Flower Trends Forecast 2017 sharing the latest trends in flower and floral décor for weddings and events.
For this year’s trend forecast, IFD relied on the experience and insight of Michael J. Skaff, AIFD, PFCI, AAF. Michael’s thirty years of design and product development experience have honed his eye for shifting consumer consumption patterns. Skaff’s current involvement in the prestigious Color Marketing Group has prepared him for the changes that are currently happening in consumer preferences in regards to home décor, fashion design, and flowers. Along with several other fashion designers, interior decorators, and floral experts from the United States, Asia, and South Africa, Skaff began to formulate 2017’s trends about two years ago.
Skaff also examined the trends occurring in retail stores such as Crate & Barrel, Nordstrom’s, and William-Sonoma as well as in publications like Home Décor, Metropolitan Home, and Veranda to help him decide on IFD’s 2017 trends.
While conducting this research, Skaff found numerous commonalities in consumer preferences and the shift that has occurred within that consumer demographic.
Because of our busy lives outside of the home, many modern consumers are looking for a way to escape the hectic outdoors by bringing nature into the home. By doing so, home owners are creating these serene sanctuaries much like those in Victorian England and the United States in the 1950's did.
Additionally, Skaff noted how the current global social, political, and economic unrest has been affecting the three industries previously mentioned. Throw in the fact that the United States is in the middle of a presidential election, Skaff believes consumers are going to notice a dulling of colors. These new complex colors reflect the current anxiety and unrest many individuals are feeling about their own government as well as the state of the world.
The current political upheavals and severe unrest among many demographics across the globe have also caused consumers to want more peace and acceptance of what is different.
This desire is strongly led by Millennials—a generation who has strongly longed for an increased sense of inclusivity within each country and across the world. This generation also increasingly prefers to communicate via images rather than verbal or textual communication.
Because of this, Millennials look for the story behind the idea—something that will hook them emotionally into what is being said. Without this story, many consumers do not feel as if they are a crucial part of the process. Instead, they feel as if they are simply the target of a general marketing scheme.
As Millennials continue to be at the forefront of the consumer demographic, they will continue to steer the ways in which trends evolve.
Taking all of this information into consideration, Skaff and IFD created four trends which they believe will be the most preferred by consumers for numerous reasons including color and texture choices.
The French Connection. The French Connection trend is luxurious and sophisticated. The color palette features soft red hues, hints of orange and chocolate brown, as well as other muted earth tones. Small botanical prints come together with lace overlays decorated with adoring delicate blooms. Romantic blossoms of roses and orchids complement viburnum berries within pedestal vases and refined metallic vessels.
Force of Nature. The Force of Nature style invokes casual nautical themes overflowing with garden wonders. Serene shades of blue and green calmly mingle with bright white. Bundles of hydrangea and corn flower come together with nigella and scabiosa and are housed in frosted and clear glass vases. Subdued patterns harmoniously connect with aged metallic finishes.
Modern Wonders. The Modern Wonders look unites the young with the old as it morphs modern sophistication with cultural antiquities. Picturesque chic lines combine with aged Asian style through beaded accents, irregular geometric patterns, and crafted textures. Graphic oranges and reds are offset by hints of gold and muted purple. Anthurium come to life alongside ginger, cymbidiums, and astilbe.
Into the Jungle. The Into the Jungle theme is rich in exotic prints showcased in brilliant muted tones of tropical hues. Sun-kissed shades of orange, yellow, and red glisten alongside earth-tinged gold. Calla lilies and bird of paradise cluster together in hand-woven baskets and cork covered vases. Heliconia, pincushion protea, and bromeliads are accented by moss, vine, and bamboo.
Each one of these 2017 trends creates memories that last forever through their individual flowers, colors, and stories. To help celebrate the impact of flowers on our happiness, International Floral Distributors have created the video Flowers Create Memories that Last Forever, see the video at http://www.flowertrendsforecast.com/flowers-create-memories-that-last-forever.
