WASHINGTON — The holiday season starts in early October for Washington florist Greenworks as the high-end florist begins assembling decorations, perfecting designs, and making sure that whatever exotic flower its clients desire will be in stock and blooming beautifully for the holidays.
The activity reaches a peak the day after Thanksgiving when a Greenworks team descends on the iconic Willard InterContinental hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue (and the other hotels on its client roster) at dawn to transform the historic lobby and promenade into a lush, sparkling holiday wonderland.
“We started on Friday morning at 6 a.m., and we finished Sunday at 1 p.m.,” said Greenworks owner Mike McCann. “Our people put in 18-hour days, and we had 16 folks on the team.” And that’s just at the Willard.
