Greenhouse Tour Helps Drive The Pajaro Valley

WATSONVILLE — For the past two years, a handful of local growers have opened their doors to the public, giving them an insider’s glimpse of the inner workings of an industry that helps drive the Pajaro Valley.

The Monterey Bay Greenhouse Open House was born when the Santa Barbara-based California Cut Flower Commission called a meeting of local growers to suggest they hold an open house.

What came from the meeting was a self-guided tour that offers participants a chance to purchase locally grown products and businesses a chance to promote themselves. It also raises money for charities chosen by the growers, all this while encouraging the public to purchase local products.

“I think the public really wants to know where their food is grown and where their flowers are grown,” said event coordinator Kathleen Williford.
