Geranium 'Rozanne' Nominated For RHS Plant Of The Centenary

The Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show celebrates its 100th birthday this year and is marking the occasion with a competition to determine the show’s Plant of the Centenary. This will be decided by a public vote. Ten plants have been nominated by RHS experts for the public to choose between, one to represent each decade of the Chelsea Flower Show.

Geranium ‘Rozanne’, the PPA Plant of the Year for 2008, has been selected to represent the decade 1993-2002, having been launched at Chelsea in 2000 when Adrian Bloom incorporated it in his garden design, spilling out of a Norfolk flint well.

This high profile publicity presents magnificent opportunities for North American growers and retailers alike to ride the wave of public interest by promoting plants which are in the running to win.

Blooms of Bressingham®, who market Geranium ‘Rozanne’ around the world, are supporting her quest to win by informing the public about what makes her such a good plant for today’s gardeners. This is being done via new pages on BloomsofBressinghamPlants.com, distribution of information to consumer media and social media campaigning. Voting is online and open to the public in the U.S. and Canada, so growers and retailers can join in and support ‘Rozanne’, too. Voting closes at noon on May 23, 2013.

Why ‘Rozanne’ deserves to win

Geranium ‘Rozanne’ is a magnificent plant that every gardener can succeed with, no matter how green-fingered, or not, they happen to be. She’s easy to grow in a wide range of soils and conditions and requires very little maintenance. Unlike other Hardy Geraniums, ‘Rozanne’ flowers from May right through to first hard autumn frosts – few other perennials bloom for such an extended amount of time.  All of these attributes lead to ‘Rozanne’ being named Perennial Plant of the Year by the Perennial Plant Association in the U.S.

A plant that’s truly versatile in use, ‘Rozanne’ can hold court on her own in the border, fill large areas in landscape plantings or trail spectacularly out of a large hanging basket, patio container or window box. No garden required!

Geranium ‘Rozanne’ was discovered in a sleepy British village in the garden of Donald and Rozanne Waterer. Renowned plantsman and garden designer Adrian Bloom was very much involved in bringing ‘Rozanne’ to the market, being among the first to endorse her unrivalled garden-performance and playing a vital role in trialling plants in various climates around the world and establishing how to successfully propagate plants on a mass scale.
