Flower Of Fall: Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums appear to be everywhere this time of year. They are in front of grocery stores, can be seen as new flowery additions to apartment windows and home gardens, and are littered around the city in giant pots of bursting autumnal hues.

The flowers, called mums for short, come in colors from vivid gold, bright purple, lavender, creamy white to a bold red. The blooms also come in various forms including daisy-like, pompons and buttons, according to The Christian Science Monitor.

Many people are growing these flowers in their gardens. In order to grow stocky bunches of mums, pinch back their growing tips, the news source advises.

Over the past few years, commercial growers have introduced new varieties of mums. The new breeds retain their good looks and color longer than other potted plants.
