Over the course of last year, the FloraHolland flower auction cooperative saw its turnover increase by 7 percent, to a total of slightly more than 4.1 billion euros. Net revenue amounted to 12 million euros, as more than 12 billion plants and flowers were sold through the flower auction’s six venues.
Because of its solid financial status, the cooperative – which strives for cost-effectiveness on behalf of its members rather than its own profit maximization – will be returning half of the membership contributions for the year 2010. “That ought to give the growers a little room to breathe again”, financial director Erik Leeuwaarden commented empathically.
75 million euros have been invested in logistics and increased opportunities for expansion on behalf of the auction’s customers, traders and exporters in 2010. An identical amount has been reserved for such activities for the year 2011.
