Somebody out there must have a combined love of flowers and vintage rock and roll. How else would you get a hydrangea named “Twist and Shout”?
This year’s third annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival is taking advantage of this association by naming its award-winning standard flower show “Twist and Shout” after the new variety.
The Twist and Shout hydrangea was developed by University of Georgia horticulturist Michael Dirr and introduced last summer. It is a cross between the Penny Mac and Lady in Red.
“Everything in our show is musically related,” said Betty Benson, flower show advisor. “Elementary, middle school and high school students will have exhibits, all of them related to rock and roll.”
