Chinese Valentine’s Day Sends Flower Prices Up 20%

Taipei – As Chinese Valentine's Day approaches, the wholesale price of roses has climbed to NT$250-500 (US$7.84-US$15.68) per 20-flower bunch, up to 20 percent higher than at non-holiday times, an official of the Taipei Flowers Auction Co. said Wednesday.

Chinese Valentine's Day falls on the seventh day of the seventh month on the lunar calendar, or Aug. 16 this year.

Chen King-wong, a section manager at the flower company, said market demand usually peaked one week before the holiday, predicting that this year the price for a three-flower arrangement would be NT$300-NT$500, and 11-flower arrangements
