In the midst of pots filled with flamboyant amaryllis and a couple of stunning poinsettias, "Ice Punch" with its frosty white markings and "Carousel" with its curled edges, the cyclamen looks old-fashioned and a bit sedate.
But trolling through a local greenhouse before Christmas, it was hard to resist this delicate beauty. So I didn't.
I brought home a plant with flawless pink blooms set against heart-shaped variegated foliage.
And I wasn't alone. Plenty of appealing cyclamens found new homes in recent weeks, either as gifts or impulse purchases. They are perfect house guests, too, making nice with other house plants and requiring relatively simple care.
