CFIA have engaged in a process to develop a voluntary standard that aims to create a framework for a consistent approach to controlling plant pests in the greenhouse, nursery and floriculture sectors. Please note: this is not a new regulation in development, it is a collection of considerations prepared to help growers manage pests in their greenhouses.
The standard provides guidance on several items including:
- biosecurity, including prevention and integrated pest management;
- promote a nationally consistent approach to mitigating pest risks with clear guidelines for effective biosecurity;
- enhance industry's knowledge of the risks associated with pests; and
- help identify potential gaps in current biosecurity measures.
