SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The Field to Vase Dinner Tour, announced today, is a series of pop-up communal dining experiences that will take place at specialty flower farms across the country.
Each event will feature a seasonal, four-course meal served at a table decorated with uncommonly beautiful American grown flowers. Guests will have rare access at each venue to meet and converse with the host flower farmer, a featured floral designer and a farm-to-table chef.
The first of ten events takes place March 5, 2015, at Westland Orchids in Carpinteria, Calif. Participants will enjoy a private, guided tour of the orchid farm, meet floral designer Margaret Lloyd of Montecito-based Margaret Joan Florals, savor local fare served family-style at farm tables, and enjoy domestic wine and craft beer.
The Field to Vase Dinner Tour continues throughout 2015, taking place across the country at unique destinations — American flower farms in both urban and rural settings. Each event introduces guests to the age-old art and science of flower farming. The series treats locavores and flower fans alike to a truly exceptional dining experience with seasonal, local and sustainable American Grown flowers at the center of the table and conversation.
After attending a 2014 field-to-vase dinner at Kitayama Brothers Farms in Watsonville, Calif., Kathleen Brenzel, Sunset magazine's senior garden editor, proclaimed the event as, "A delicious meal plus sumptuous, sustainable-grown blooms plus caring farmers equals a memorable evening. One that you'll never forget."
"You get to eat delish local grub in a field full of beautiful American grown flowers, and when you leave, your new BFF's are amazing locavores just like you. How rad is that?" asks past guest Christina Stembel, Farmgirl Flowers, San Francisco.
Attendees of each private flower-farm experience will bring home new insights and a heightened understanding of the American floral landscape, symbolized by a local floral memento and gift bag from their visit.
