CalFlowers Growers & Shippers Help Celebrate International Women's Day

CAPITOLA, Calif. – How do we honor the women in our lives? That’s a question answered by International Women’s Day, March 8, 2015, a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Here in California, growers and shippers from CalFlowers are working to ensure that consumers have plenty of options for beautiful, fresh flowers and plants – many grown locally.

More than 100 nations celebrate International Women’s Day to demonstrate respect and love, typically with floral gifts. Research from Rutgers University* shows that flowers create instant delight and increase happiness and life satisfaction as well as increase positivity long term.

CalFlowers’ growers and shippers provide a number of locally grown floral options, including the gerbera daisy, sunflowers, roses, lilies, tulips, alstroemeria and succulents, to wholesaler and retail outlets for International Women’s Day.

“International Women’s Day has become an increasingly important channel for CalFlowers’ members, who provide so many beautiful and unique flowers to markets in and out of state,” noted Michael Lobue, CEO, CalFlowers. “And, this holiday gives consumers a meaningful way to recognize the many roles women play in their lives and to share those moments with something many women treasure – fresh flowers!”

Through the CalFlowers network of shippers and logistics experts, growers can get flowers from field to buyer quickly and efficiently, enabling a growing floral market that represents more than $330 million in revenue in California alone and creates tens of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in salaries and wages.

CalFlowers’ mission is to strengthen member businesses through logistics, education and promotion to grow the use and enjoyment of cut flowers.
