It was a snowy standoff at the Pennsylvania state line in the middle of the
night. A war of the roses, you might say – most certainly in lowercase, if you
say it all – amid the slash-and-burn of the Blizzard of 2010.
One one side: Pennsylvania State Police.
On the other: Four tractor trailers full of roses. A fifth full of other
flowers.
The time: Late Wednesday night.
The order: Stay right there. Snow-coated highways had been shut down by the
governor.
The booty: Some 60,000 long-stemmed beauties headed to area Wegmans supermarkets
for Valentine’s Day.
