A Luscious Treat From Blooms Of Bressingham – Coreopsis 'Sweet Marmalade'

With a famous parent in its background, and a name that perfectly captures its beautifully unfolding orange-red to apricot-yellow color, Coreopsis ‘Sweet Marmalade’ is a well-heeled and stunning addition to any garden.

An introduction from Blooms of Bressingham®, this variety’s orange-red flowers soften as they mature, mellowing to a more pale apricot-yellow through the season. It’s also covered in bushy mounds of mid-green, narrow, linear foliage. ‘Sweet Marmalade’ blooms summer into early autumn, and its tidy habit works beautifully in the garden or in a container. Hardy in Zones 5-9, like most of its genus, it’s happiest in full sun and in porous, well-drained soil. Bushy mounded plants grow 10″ high and 20″ wide the first year.

Discovered by Blooms partner Yohei Hosogai of Nichien Company, Japan, ‘Sweet Marmalade’ is a sport of another very popular Blooms variety, 'Creme Brulee'. The mixed shades of orange and yellow are reminiscent of orange marmalade, the staple British treat, so the name for this lovely introduction centered around the food theme of the parent.

‘Sweet Marmalade’ doesn’t require vernalization for flowering. Unvernalized liners planted in April will produce finished flowering plants in 12 to 14 weeks. Pinch or shear once about two weeks after transplant to encourage a full, robust habit. Light shade may be helpful in very hot areas until young plants are well-established. In the garden, a summer cutback encourages a new flush of growth and bloom for autumn.
