Kari Skibbie of Holland Family Farms will have some of his award-winning cheeses to sample from 3 to 6 p.m. May 3 at the Winona Hy-Vee.
Along with winning the title of U.S. Grand Champion, Holland Family Farms also placed first, second, fourth and fifth in the flavored Gouda category at the same contest. Most recently this farmstead American cheese company swept the aged Gouda category at the World Championship Cheese Contest by winning first, second and third place.
Holland Family Farm owners Rolf and Marieke Penterman are first-generation Wisconsin dairy farmers, having moved from the Netherlands to Wisconsin in 2002. Because the Netherlands is so small and the population so dense, farmers are limited in the amount of land they can obtain for dairy operations. They purchased property near Thorp and now own 160 acres, milk 350 head and have about 450 head of cattle on their farm.
