NEW YORK – The Specialty Food Foundation is staging its second nationwide volunteer event, Embrace Hunger Relief Week. From April 27 to May 3, specialty food professionals across the U.S. will volunteer at local anti-hunger organizations to support the Foundation’s mission to help reduce hunger and increase food recovery.
The Foundation, established last year by the Specialty Food Association, has partnered with anti-hunger organizations to organize specific volunteer events in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Miami, New York, Portland, Ore., San Francisco, and Seattle. Activities include re-packs of bulk produce donations and assembling grocery boxes to deploy to a network of local food pantries and high-need schools. The Foundation is encouraging companies to arrange their own staff events as well, and to share the details on social media with the hashtag #EHRW15.
“Our first event was only a day, with participants from Brooklyn to San Francisco. This time we’ve expanded to a full week, and hope to lend even more support and raise awareness about the continuing problem of hunger in America,” says Ron Tanner, vice president of philanthropy, government and industry relations for the Specialty Food Association.
