Shuckman's Fish Co. & Smokery Awarded For Its Cheeses

Lewis Shuckman likes to talk about smoked fish and spoonfish caviar, but now he can brag about its cheese.

Shuckman's Fish Co. and Smokery in Louisville entered four of its smoked cheeses in competition at the Kentucky State Fair and brought home four blue ribbons.

This is the first year the fair has offered a farm-style cheese category. Shuckman's smoked mozzarella won a gold medal; smoked Parmesan received a first-place ribbon; smoked blue cheese came in second; and smoked muenster placed third.

"We were ecstatic that these products scored as high as they did," Shuckman said. "We've been smoking cheese for about five years for other people, and about a year ago we decided we would do our own. We decided we needed a name. The grandchildren call my wife Mimi, so we call it Mimi's Garden Fresh, and under that label we have six items."
