The European competition, which only starting allowing entries from the United States in 2011, featured over 1,000 cheeses spread across several dozen categories.
Sweet Cream Fig Dip, also known as White Balsamic Fig Spread, is a blend of soft cream cheese with sweet brown figs and a touch of flavorful white balsamic vinegar. The result is sweet but with a hint of mysterious depth from the tart balsamic. The texture is fluffy, but features a nice crunch from the natural fig seeds found throughout the product.
The recipe for Sweet Cream Fig is the creation of home chef and original founder, Mallory Kates. Kates, having always had a passion for new and exciting flavors spent years perfecting the recipe in her own kitchen. "I had always loved figs and cream cheese," notes Kates. "But found the combination too sweet. To balance it, I tried Balsamic Vinegar. It worked, but it also turned the product an unappealing brown. Finally, I happened upon white balsamic vinegar, and there it was. A home run in flavor and appearance. Sweet Cream Fig is now one of the most popular products I've ever been involved with."
