West Caldwell, NJ — RLB Food Distributors announces the opening of a newly acquired 40,000-square-foot refrigerated warehouse facility in Fairfield, NJ, which enables the company to distribute more volume and variety of high-quality deli products, produce and value-added items to its retail customers. The Fairfield facility, which RLB began shipping out of on January 24, combined with the company’s existing 85,000-square-foot facility in West Caldwell, provides nearly 50 percent more warehouse space.
Floyd Avillo, RLB’s president and co-owner, explains, “This addition solves our past challenges of a limited number of slots. It means we can now handle more of anything that is chilled and take on new lines and suppliers for our customers. We expect this new facility will allow us to grow all lines of our business for another 10 to 12 years.”
The Fairfield warehouse, formerly a cheese distribution facility, which RLB purchased and renovated, is located three miles from the company’s headquarters.
RLB moved its entire deli inventory, including chilled food distribution products such as soups and prepared foods, into 30,000-square-feet of the Fairfield warehouse. The facility’s remaining 10,000-square-feet currently serves as dry storage for items such as private label chips, water, imported olive oil and tomato sauces. This strategic segregation, plus 8 loading dock doors in the Fairfield location, makes it easier to expedite the movement of trucks and product.
Deli, cheese and specialty foods are a major segment of RLB’s business representing over 30 percent of dollar sales in 2013.
